Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku begs fans to stop singing about his penis

Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku has spoken out against the controversial new songs relating to his manhood being sung by his team's supporters during games.

A marquee off-season signing for the Red Devils, Lukaku has asked fans to "move on" from the chants mentioning his penis size, which have been prevalent at Old Trafford since his arrival.

The 24-year-old was quoted on the club's official Twitter page, discouraging any further use of the songs in question.

"Fans have meant well with their songs but let's move on together," he said, signing off with the hashtag "RespectEachOther".

The lyrics from one of the more popular chants allude to Lukaku's "24-inch penis" and a "bell-end by his toes".

Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out have been vocal in its opposition to their use, labelling the songs "offensive and discriminatory", as well as racially insensitive.

"Racist stereotypes are never acceptable, irrespective of any intention to show support for a player," said the organisation, earlier this week.

The Belgian international has been in sublime form for his new club, with five goals in as many games for the Premier League leaders, since his £75million ($NZ139m) move from Everton in August.
