Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams may be in line for a move to the Big Apple, according to the latest trade rumours circulating the league.

Per The Ringer's Bill Simmons, Adams' Thunder have entered into negotiations with the New York Knicks to trade for forward Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony, a 10-time All Star and three-time Olympic gold-medallist, has been at odds with his dysfunctional franchise for some time now, and is said to be willing to waive his 'no trade' clause in order to find a more favourable situation.

Acquiring an asset like Anthony would require a fair outlay from the Oklahoma City in the form of at least one of its major existing contracts, likely that of either Adams or his "'Stache brother", Enes Kanter.

The Rotorua-born center is currently one of the organisation's most valuable players, having signed a four-year, US$100 million (NZ1$34.5m) in October 2016 to make him New Zealand's highest-earning sportsperson.

Turkish tower Kanter has long been dangled as trade bait by the Thunder and is currently amid his own four-year deal worth US$70m (NZ$94.1m).

The franchise recently added All Star forward Paul George via trade as they continue their post-Kevin Durant rebuild, while also looking to convince league MVP Russell Westbrook into staying with the team once his contract expires at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.

Anthony has also been strongly linked with the Houston Rockets but despite extended talks, the teams have yet to manage to come to terms on an agreement.
