Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski has hit back at Project Runway star Tim Gunn who called one of her latest racy outfits "appallingly vulgar".

The 25-year-old star of Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' video wore a risqué black dress to a Harper's Bazaar party in New York over the weekend that revealed a lot of skin.

"This dress is so appallingly vulgar and revealing. Why wear anything? Why not just take it all off?" Gunn asked on E!'s Fashion Police.

"Is this all just about [making] everybody shocked? And I will tell you I'm not shocked... This is just vulgar and repugnant."

Ratajkowski took to Twitter to use Gunn's comments as a reminder that men in the Western world should stop dictating what women can and cannot wear.

Ratajkowski has often faced criticism from entirely male celebrities over what she chooses to wear.

Piers Morgan declared feminism as being "dead" after she and Kim Kardashian posed topless for a Instagram selfie with each other.

The apparently self-appointed guardian of feminism has also derided Ratajkowski's form of feminism as a "misguided affront to true feminism" and labelled it "pseudo-feminist gibberish".

Meanwhile, it's not the only time this week Gunn has hit gossip headlines - he's also slammed pop star Kanye West's fashion line Yeezy on TV.

"I'm totally perplexed about why the fashion industry has not looked at these, frankly, dumb, basic clothes and cried 'hoax,'" Gunn told Access Hollywood Live.

"Kanye West is a sphinx without a riddle. I just don't understand why people are so in awe. [The models in the show were] basically wearing stretch undergarments."
